Senior Back End Data Engineer
Acme Robotics Inc — United States (Remote)
About the Role
Acme Robotics Inc is seeking a Senior Back End Data Engineer to design and maintain the data infrastructure powering its next generation of AI-driven robotics systems. This role sits at the intersection of real-time data architecture, machine learning pipelines, and autonomous systems engineering. The successful candidate will play a central part in shaping how live sensor, telemetry, and operational data flows through Acme's robotics platform.
Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain scalable back end data pipelines that ingest, process, and route real-time telemetry and sensor streams from deployed robotic systems.
- Design low-latency data infrastructure supporting AI model inference and feedback loops in live production environments.
- Own the data layer for core robotics services, including schema design, storage optimization, and query performance across structured and unstructured data sources.
- Collaborate with ML engineers and robotics software teams to define data contracts, feature stores, and training dataset pipelines.
- Investigate and resolve data reliability, consistency, and throughput issues across distributed systems.
- Establish and enforce data engineering standards, documentation practices, and code review processes across the engineering organization.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in back end or data engineering roles, with at least 2 years working on real-time or streaming data systems (Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in Python and/or Scala for data pipeline development; strong SQL skills across relational and columnar databases (PostgreSQL, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar).
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating distributed data systems on cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including containerized deployments with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of data modeling, event-driven architectures, and the trade-offs between batch and streaming processing.
- Proven ability to work within cross-functional engineering teams and communicate technical requirements to non-engineering stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in robotics, autonomous systems, embedded data collection, or industrial IoT environments.
- Familiarity with ML infrastructure tooling such as MLflow, Kubeflow, or similar platforms for managing model pipelines and feature engineering.
- Experience with time-series databases (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB) and working with high-frequency sensor or telemetry data.
- Exposure to ROS (Robot Operating System) data interfaces or real-time edge computing architectures.
What Acme Robotics Inc Offers
- A technically rigorous environment where data engineering decisions have direct impact on physical autonomous systems in production.
- Competitive compensation package, commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Flexible remote work arrangement within the United States.
- Professional development support, including conference attendance, learning resources, and access to cutting-edge robotics research.
